Most guides tell you retired LEGO "tends to go up". We measure it instead. Every figure below comes from live prices we scrape across European retailers — not from estimated valuations.

How long after retirement does a set gain value?

Each row is the set of sets we still see priced in European shops, grouped by the year LEGO ended production. The pattern is consistent: the retail discount disappears first, then the premium starts.

How we measure this

We track live prices across European LEGO retailers. For every set we record how many of those shops still list it and what the cheapest one charges, then compare that to LEGO's original euro RRP. Nothing here is an estimated valuation or a secondary-market sale price — it is what European shops are asking today.

Two limits worth knowing. Older retirement years contain only the sets still listed somewhere, so sets that sold through cleanly have left the sample and those cohorts read higher than the full picture. And a cohort of 21 sets carries far less weight than one of 332 — the count is shown on every row for that reason.
