LEGO Hokusai The Great Wave (31208) Price in Europe — Out of Stock at LEGO.com, 7 Shops Above RRP

LEGO Art 31208 Hokusai – The Great Wave is the 1,810-piece brick version of the most reproduced Japanese print there is. It launched in January 2023 at €99.99 and it is now on its way out: BrickEconomy lists it as retired, and LEGO.com is out of stock in every eurozone storefront we follow.

The price shows it. The cheapest tracked offer is still €80.90 at Toys4kids12 AT, but that is one shop. Of the 10 European shops that list the set in euros, 7 now ask more than RRP — and five of them raised their price in the last two months.

There is a €19 gap between the cheapest shop and the next one, and only 3 shops are at or below RRP. Everything else is priced for people who can no longer buy it from LEGO.

None of those three has changed its price since April or May. That is worth knowing before you order: a price nobody has touched for months, on a set LEGO is out of, is sometimes a listing with no stock behind it. Check that the shop shows the set as available before you count on it.

The price is going up, shop by shop

These are the increases we logged in the last 60 days:

Store Date Change Price now
Unieke Bricks 24 August +€30.00 €129.99
BRICKshop 2 September +€20.00 €129.99
PCComponentes 5 September +€43.64 €237.00
BrickFever 7 September +€15.00 €119.99
Steinehelden DE 26 September +€10.00 €129.99

Three of the five are Dutch LEGO specialists — Unieke Bricks, BRICKshop and BrickFever — and BRICKshop now tags the set "hard to find". Nobody raises a price by €15 to €30 on a three-year-old set unless they expect it to keep selling at the higher figure.

The lowest price we have recorded

€67.99, at bol on 25 April 2026. bol now asks €116.00 for the same set — €48 more in five months.

That is the direction of travel for this set, and it is what our numbers show across retired sets generally: for about half of them, the best price ever recorded was at or above RRP, because the discounting stops when production does. The Great Wave did get discounted — from February to June the lowest prices we logged each month were between €68 and €80 — but that window has closed.

If you want this set, the €99.99 offers are the ones to take while they last. Anything under RRP that is actually in stock is a good price now.

LEGO Art sets are built largely from very small elements, so they always look cheap per piece next to the rest of the catalogue — compare them with each other.

What you build

Katsushika Hokusai's Under the Wave off Kanagawa, from around 1831, is a woodblock print from his series of views of Mount Fuji — the mountain is the small peak under the curl of the wave. The LEGO version measures 39 cm high and 52 cm wide.

It is built on six canvas plates inside a brick-built frame, with two hanger elements on the back. The sky is a flat field of studs, and the wave is layered on top of it, so the foam and the claw-like crest stand out from the surface the way the print's outlines do.

The last piece to go on is a decorative tile with Hokusai's signature. The set comes with a booklet about the artist and the print, and a QR code for a soundtrack made to accompany the build.
