One caution: LEGO Art sets are built largely from very small elements, so they always look cheap per piece next to a Technic or Icons set. Compare them with each other, not with the rest of the catalogue. Among the painting sets, Monet has the most pieces for the money — Van Gogh's Sunflowers is €6.67 cheaper but has 564 fewer pieces.

What you build
The finished piece measures 51 cm high, 41 cm wide and 4 cm deep and comes with a hanging mechanism on the back.
Monet painted the Japanese footbridge in his garden at Giverny many times; this is the 1899 version held by The Met. LEGO does not try to copy the brushwork with flat tiles. Instead the reeds, trees and lily pads are built up in layers from ordinary elements used out of context — LEGO lists butterflies, cherries, bananas, swords and shields among them — which is what gives the surface its texture when you see it from the side.

The instruction booklet carries a QR code for a podcast about Monet with a curator from The Met, and the set is supported by 3D instructions in the LEGO Builder app.
